Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has clarified his billionaire status, saying he is a billionaire in naira but not in dollars.
Obi made the clarification while responding to a question about whether he considers himself a billionaire.
“You know they calculate billionaire in dollars. In naira, yes I am in naira but not in dollars,” he said.
Explaining further, the former governor said the dollar is the standard currency used globally when measuring billionaire status.
“Dollars is what they use to measure. Dollars is what they use to measure billionaire, it’s always in dollars but in naira, yes I am. Capital yes,” Obi added.
His comments come amid discussions about his wealth and financial status, with the politician distinguishing between being a billionaire in naira and meeting the dollar-denominated threshold commonly used to describe billionaires.
